Local Area Information
Situated only 20 minutes from Perth city centre, The Beech Hut offers a city break in the countryside. Explore everything Perth has to offer during the day and relax in the countryside in the evening. Or do it the other way around and explore the surrounding countryside during the day. We have Blairgowrie and everything it offers just a short drive away and for the evening, head into Perth and eat in one of the many fabulous local restaurants. If you need more, Dundee is also only 25 minutes away, the drive is delightful, across countryside to join up with the M90 just before Dundee. Or take the road from Coupar Angus and reach Dundee, close to Camperdown Park.
One of the newest attractions in Perth is www.perthmuseum.co.uk and it's well worth a visit. There is the gorgeous Scone Palace and gardens nearby, host to many events over the years. The gardens at the palace are extensive, including The Murray Maze, a beech hedge maze named after Andy Murray as well as lots of interesting history, plants and of course their beautiful white peacock. Of course, Perth Racecourse is right next door to Scone Palace.
If you are a fan of Shakespeare's Macbeth, Dunsinane Hill is nearby. On the peak, with an elevation of 1,012 feet (308 metres), stand the ruins of an ancient fort traditionally identified with the castle in Macbeth. You can enjoy a bite to eat at The Three Witches tearoom just 5 minutes drive from The Beech Hut, the food is great and they use local produce where they can.
There is a stunning back road drive to Pitlochry. The nearby countryside offers delights like Reekie Linn, an incredible riverside walk (not for the fainthearted!!) taking you to an incredible gorge, https://visitangus.com/things-to-see-do/attractions/reekie-linn/ . Glamis Castle is in the area as well as delightful places like Kirriemuir.
Of course Perthshire is famous as 'Big Tree' country and the autumnal displays are stunning.
